Why Your Teen Will Benefit From a Summer Job

When school gets out and summer starts, teens get excited about their freedom.

As a parent, you have to ask yourself if you should encourage your teen to get a job, or allow them to enjoy some of the leisure of summer. Here are a few great reasons why your teen will benefit from a summer job: 1.
Money and money management skills. A teen should be allowed to have some money at their disposal for things like dating, clothes, and entertainment.

Many parents are willing to give their children some money in the form of an allowance, etc.
however, there is something to be said for earning your own money.

One of the best things you can do to help teach your teen good money management is to allow them to earn their own money. It does not feel so "light" when you are the one who worked to earn it. Teens will not be so fast to throw their money away when they figure out that one meal out at a fast food place costs them an hour of time.
Thus, a summer job not only gives teens a bit of freedom with some spending money, but also teaches them the value of money which can be a very good skill to learn for proper money management.
2.
Responsibility.
One of the best reasons to allow your teen a summer job is that it is a fantastic way to teach them responsibility.
They have to get to work on time. They have to perform their duties well. They have to wear a uniform, and make sure they have clean clothes, etc.

Thus, they learn one of life's valuable lessons about responsibility. When they work for the summer, they have to learn how to budget their time as well so that they can still socialize during the summer, but do so without staying out so late that they miss work the next day, etc.

Thus, it can be a great tool for keeping them focused even during those lazier months. 3.
Experience. Lastly, summer jobs are great for teens because it can give them invaluable work experience.
They can try and get summer jobs in fields that interest them, and thus know what to pursue in college degrees. If they work in a field they think they may like to go into some day, they will gain valuable insight to what it really takes, and whether or not it is actually for them.

It also helps them to build a resume to make getting a job easier in the future. Your teen might idle the summer away with video games, socializing, getting a tan, and sleeping until noon.
Or, they could earn some money, learn some responsibility, and get some valuable work experience.

If you want them around some, a part time job is a great solution.
